How Anuma keeps your data private
Privacy is the default in Anuma. Your conversations and memory are encrypted and stored under your control. Nothing is shared unless you choose.
Three pillars of privacy
Local First Architecture
Your conversations and memory are stored on your device and encrypted with AES-GCM. Anuma is built local-first: your private memory stays under your control instead of living on our servers. Open source models run on Anuma’s private infrastructure, and closed source models only ever receive what’s needed to answer a single prompt.
No Logging, No Training
Anuma doesn’t log your conversations or use them to train models. When you delete a conversation or memory, it’s gone — no hidden copies kept. Deleted means deleted. The only copies that exist are the encrypted backups you choose to enable — those are encrypted with your keys and entirely under your control to manage or clear.
End-to-End Encrypted Sync and Backup
If data must travel — to sync across your devices or back up — it’s encrypted with keys only you control. External AI providers cannot access your memory or full conversation history.
What “user-owned memory” means
You have full control over your AI memory:
- Data Ownership — Your memory is stored under your account. Anuma never trains on it, sells it, or uses it without your consent.
- Memory Management — Import, export, upload, review, edit, search, delete, or set your memories to private anytime.
- Private by default — Memory is encrypted at rest and in transit. Only you and the AI tools you authorize can access it.
- Multi-model Access — One unified memory across Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, and more. Your preferences and context follow you.
- Export anytime — Download your full memory anytime. No lock-in, no hidden dependencies. It’s your data.
- Always up to date — Anuma continuously learns from your interactions and keeps your memory current without manual effort.
How open source models work
When you use open source models, your conversations are routed only through private, open-source models. No data is sent to external AI providers like OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google. When you use closed source models, Anuma acts as a protective shield — “borrowing” the AI’s brain while keeping your personal memory private.
Redact personal details before they’re sent
Anuma can strip sensitive information out of your messages before they ever leave your device. Turn on PII redaction under Settings → Privacy, and Anuma scans each message on your device for details like email addresses, phone numbers, credit card and Social Security numbers, IP addresses, and API keys.
Detected values are swapped for neutral placeholders — such as [EMAIL_1] or [CARD_1] — before the message is sent, so the model only ever works with the placeholders and never receives your real data. When the reply comes back, Anuma restores the original values locally, so your conversation reads normally to you.
Redaction is opt-in and works the same way with every model — open source or closed source, a single model or a full Council.
How to export or delete your data
Export
Open Memories from the sidebar. Use the export option to download your complete memory.
Delete
In Memories, select the entries you want to remove and tap the trash icon. You can delete individual memories or clear everything.
Delete your account
To permanently delete your account, cancel any active subscription, and erase all stored data, follow How to delete your Anuma account.
Good to know
- Only you can read your stored conversations and memory. Anuma can’t access, read, or share them.
- When you use closed source models, your message is sent to that external provider so it can generate a response. Anuma limits what the provider sees and keeps your private memory and full history separate.
- Your memory syncs securely and end-to-end encrypted across all your devices.
- If you lose your device or switch phones, your encrypted memory can be restored safely when you sign in on a new device.
